Fiat Avventura Urban Cross

We love our old Fiat. It has strong memories. In India, we miss our old Fiat Padmini, the baby of the legendary Fiat and the Indian giant of yesteryears –Padmini Motors.

As a sign of respect to the old Fiat, comes out the Fiat Avventura Urban Cross. As we all have felt, Fiat has been missing from the Indian space for quite some time. We are hoping this car brings them back in the fold. Fiat really deserves it; they’ve been working hard.

Well, in the term of looks, Fiat has gone for a similar look. The last car- The Avventura and the Avventura Urban Cross by Fiat have similar looks. Fiat has gone for familiarity in the design of the car. You may not see much of a difference. There is a bit of a difference. The Petrol Variant and Diesel variant have different wheel design. The Diesel variant has a lighter color version than the petrol. It is a small addition but looks quite conspicuous while looking at the car.

There is the same old blast from the past. The Avventura Urban Cross has brought a wheel on the back- the rear wheel. It is rear mounted on the trunk. May be a bit of concern for a lot of regular travelers. It looks sturdy and different. It may have been a good idea to not have it on the back.

The Diesel variants are special in many ways. With the wheel design, there is also a special addition of having two sub variants, which are the Active, and another called Dynamic. Dynamic is a more rugged variant. It is meant for the rough terrains and off roadwork. Being a sturdy car, the Dynamic is less on the comfort features.

The Diesel variant may be different but it does disappoint on one front- safety. Missing front airbags, you feel there is something compromised. You would want a protected front especially in such a car meant for long travels. It is a must have which you will miss out on Diesel variants of this car.

One thing that is a pleasure to all is that finally an automated car system is installed. Fiat has been missing one and a lot of consumers have been asking for it for quite a few years. It was on everyone’s mind and we finally have been rewarded. Patient always wins, as they say. There have been a few complaints with the USB/Bluetooth feature as noticed and it seems the hardware is not compatible to a few phone models. These quirks need to be fixed post purchase and can really not make some customers happy.

Goodbye Paceman

If you are a fan of Mini Paceman then this is not the greatest news out here for you because the Paceman will have its journey concluded by the end of this year. Mini Paceman will be joining the Roadster and two-seat Coupe in a list of cars that Mini has decided to discontinue.

This might not be the worst decision out there. Initial reviews of Mini Paceman were not all that favorable and this ungainly and weirdly shaped Mini was even touted to be a car for grandparents. While it was a decent ride it still did not offer the experience and comfort that people were looking for. For instance the five seat option was never available as there was just not enough width to accommodate and provide space for the passengers.

Another low point was the tacky interiors. It is about time to upgrade the plastics that Mini is so known for. It is not fair to expect people to pay premium prices for a car that hardly has any personality and also fails in the looks department. The decision to do away with the Paceman have been taken by the companies executives who have decided to do away with those models that do not generate enough buyer interest and in the long run, profits for the company.

This also means that ultra-niche Minis with different body styles will not be an immediate priority for the company. Currently, the next-gen BMW 5-series to be launched in 2017 is being built in Steyr, Austria – the place where Mini Paceman was formerly built.

What the Mini Paceman did offer was, similar to other Mini models, a chance to experience a kart-like driving experience. However, the turning in corners was not as smooth as they should have been; so while driving is convenient, it is not necessarily a pleasure. With three different models under the Mini Paceman, buyers had the option of choosing one that fits their lifestyle. Whether it was speed, budget or just being ecofriendly, different choices were offered under the Mini Paceman models, but things did not work out for the best.

It is not all doom and gloom for Mini however as they are about to launch the Mini Countryman by the end of this year. So if you are a fan of Minis, there is something coming you way that is worth waiting for!

Porsche 918 Spyder 2015 – The Numbers Game

A car that has bucket loads of admirers, the Porsche 918 Spyder is a lean mean machine that really boasts of some incredible numbers. It easily impresses even the most harsh critics of automobiles and is not only great to look at but also great to drive and handle. Here is a look at the facts and figures of the Porsche 918 Spyder 2015.

887 – That is right. That is the horsepower that Porsche 918 can boast of. With a starting horse power of 608 that can provide up to 8600 rpm, the Porsche 918 Spyder can generate an impressive 133 horsepower for every liter – very similar to Ferrari 458.

6.8 – this is capacity in kilowatt hours of the lithium-ion battery that is used in the Porsche 918 Spyder. Up to 312 cells are used to make up the lithium ion battery which has its own cooling system. The battery has a warranty of seven years and if provided with a 110-volt charger, will require up to seven hours to be completely charged. If charged at 240 volts, it will take just about four hours to be fully charged.

Sub-2.8 – Yes this is the number that everyone talks about. 0 to 60 mph in sub-2.8 seconds. It can also reach speeds of 125 mph in just 8 seconds. Definitely fast and oh so very furious.

940 – Speed has been talked about. Now let’s discuss power. Once in the seventh gear, the total torque generated can be up to 940 thanks to a combination of 390 pound feet of the V8 along with 6600 rpm.

18 – Now this is not exactly impressive but it had to be mentioned. With the rise in electric cars, you would be glad to know that the Porsche 918 Spyder can also travel purely on electric mode. However, it is not really anything to write home about. It can run for roughly 18 miles on electric mode and the range is likely to be even lesser if you really want to show off the speed of the Porsche 918 Spyder. When driven on just pure battery mode, it reaches 62 mph in just a shade under seven seconds and can reach maximum speeds of 93 mph.

The Porsche 911 Spyder is a great car that clearly boasts of some great numbers. It is easy to see why this car has so many car lovers vouching for it.
